Test the waters.. వినగానే నీటిని పరిశీలించడం అనుకున్నారా? అయితే పప్పులో కాలేసినట్టే! దానికో అర్థముంది. అదేంటో.. దాన్ని వ్యక్తీకరణల్లో ఎలా ఉపయోగించొచ్చో తెలుసుకుందామా?
Srinivas: Are you going to the party that Rajaram is giving? If you are going whenwill you start?(రాజారాం ఇస్తున్న పార్టీకి నువ్వు వెళ్తున్నావా?)
Gopi: I am not sure if I am going. But then if I go, it is going to be a white tie affair. And right now I don’t have the formal dress that is required for the party. A good number of VIPs are coming to the party, and our dress should be quite formal. Are you attending the party?(నేనింకా వెళ్లాలా వద్దా అనే నిర్ణయం తీసుకోలేదు. ఒకవేళ నేను వెళ్లినా అది లాంఛనప్రాయమే. అయినా పార్టీకి అవసరమైన ఫార్మల్‌ బట్టలు కూడా నా దగ్గర లేవు. చాలామంది వీఐపీలు పార్టీకి వస్తున్నారు కాబట్టి, మన దుస్తులు కూడా ఫార్మల్‌వి అయ్యుండాలి. ఇంతకీ నువ్వు వెళ్తున్నావా పార్టీకి?)
Srinivas: I am not sure either. As it is tomorrow evening itself, I don’t have the formal dress to attend the party (నేనూ ఇంకా నిర్ణయించుకోలేదు. పార్టీ రేపు సాయంత్రమే. నా దగ్గర ఫార్మల్‌ దుస్తులేవీ లేవు)
Gopi: It is going to be a white tie affair. I am not sure if I have that kind of dress (అది చాలా ఖరీదైన బట్టలు వేసుకునే పార్టీ అవుతుంది. అలాంటి దుస్తులు నాకు లేవనుకుంటున్నా).
Srinivas: My opinion is that I had better avoid it. But I feel Rajaram might feel bad or let down if I do not attend the party (నా అభిప్రాయం ప్రకారం.. మనం ఆ పార్టీకి వెళ్లకుండా ఉండటమే మంచిది. కానీ మనం వెళ్లకపోతే రాజారాం వాడిని ముంచేసినట్లుగా భావిస్తాడేమో).
Gopi: I do feel so too. Any way I am going to buy a new suit and will attend the party (నేనూ అదే అనుకుంటున్నా. ఏదేమైనా ఓ కొత్త సూటు కొనుక్కొని పార్టీకి వెళ్లాలి అనుకుంటున్నా).
Srinivas: So will I. He is our closest friend and if we don’t attend the party, he may misread our intentions. He may think badly of us. We should attend the party and test the waters (నేనూ అదే అనుకుంటున్నా. అతను చాలా సన్నిహితమైన మిత్రుడు. మనం వెళ్లకపోతే అతను మనల్ని తప్పుగా అర్థం చేసుకోవచ్చు. మనం ఆ పార్టీకి వెళ్లి, అక్కడ మిగతావాళ్లు ఏమనుకుంటున్నారో తెలుసుకోవాలి).
