ఇంగ్లిష్‌లో వాడుకలోకి వస్తున్న వ్యక్తీకరణలను గమనిస్తూ, వాటి ప్రయోగాన్ని తెలుసుకోవడం విద్యార్థులకు చాలా అవసరం. ఈవారం అలాంటి కొన్ని Expressions ను ఉదాహరణలతో నేర్చుకుందాం!

Shanmukh:The college has declared vacation from the day after tomorrow for two months. How happy I am! (ఎల్లుండి నుంచి కళాశాలకు రెండు నెలలు సెలవులు ప్రకటించారు. నాకు ఎంత సంతోషంగా ఉందో!)

Vinayak: I am happier than you. The lecturer gave me some assignment Ð a tough one. I was just wondering how I will be able to do it. It is a big load off my mind (నీకంటే నాకు ఎక్కువ సంతోషంగా ఉంది. మా లెక్చరర్‌ నాకు ఓ అసైన్‌మెంట్‌ ఇచ్చారు- కష్టమైంది. ఎలా చేద్దామా అని ఆలోచిస్తున్నాను. ఇప్పుడు నాకు పెద్ద భారం తలమీద నుంచి దించినట్లుంది).

Shanmukh:You could have taken the help of your uncle. He is very learned, isnÕt he? (మీ మామయ్య సాయం తీసుకుని ఉండొచ్చు కదా? ఆయన అన్నీ తెలిసినవాడు కదా?)

Vinayak: He is the over hill, and is short of energy to help me out in such matters (ఆయన చాలా పెద్దవాడైపోయాడు. ఇలాంటి విషయాల్లో నాకు సాయం చేయడానికి ఆయనకు ఓపిక లేదు).

Shanmukh:OK. You have plenty of time to do the assignment. By the way, our friend Sasank has got a very good job (అవునా. నీకు ఆ అసైన్‌మెంట్‌ చేయడానికి ఇంకా చాలా సమయం ఉంది. అది సరేకానీ మన స్నేహితుడు శశాంక్‌కు చాలా మంచి ఉద్యోగం వచ్చింది).

Vinayak:IÕve heard it too. The point is he is on the gravy train. The job is quite light and the pay is high (నేనూ విన్నాను అది. అసలు విషయం ఏమిటంటే, ఆ ఉద్యోగంలో పని చాలా తక్కువ, జీతం చాలా ఎక్కువ).

Now look at the following sentences form the conversation above:

1. A big load of my mind - a big load off oneÕs mind = relief from a problem / being free from worry about something (తల మీద నుంచి పెద్ద బరువు దించినట్టు/ పెద్ద సమస్య నుంచి బయటపడినట్టు).

a) Jayanth: Good news for you. You donÕt have any longer the responsibility of receiving Chairman of the company tomorrow. The manager is willing to do it (నీకు శుభవార్త. కంపెనీ చైర్మన్‌ను నువ్వు తీసుకురానక్కర్లేదు. మన మేనేజర్‌ ఆ బాధ్యతను తీసుకున్నాడు).

Swarna: Oh, it is a big load off my mind. Tomorrow is Sunday and I thought of enjoying a holiday (పెద్ద బరువు తల మీదనుంచి దించినట్టుంది. రేపు ఆదివారం, సెలవు చక్కగా గడపొచ్చు అనుకున్నా).

b) Srikar: You appear quite happy and cheerful. What could be the reason? (ఏంటీ, చాలా సంతోషంగా, సరదాగా కనపడుతున్నావు?)

Sairam: You know the principal is going on leave. I thought I would be asked to be in charge. But Sanjeev has offered to take the responsibility. 2. Over the hill = Too old to do anything (ఏ పనీ చేయడానికి ఓపికలేని పెద్ద వయసు రావడం)

a) Meghanath: What is the problem? Why are you troubling the old man? (ఏమిటీ సమస్య? ఆ పెద్దాయనని ఎందుకు ఇబ్బంది పెడుతున్నావ్‌?)

Subbarao: I donÕt want to trouble him with any responsibility as he is over the hill. But he wonÕt listen and wants to do it (ఆయన ఏ పనీ చేయలేనంత పెద్దాయన, ఆయనకు ఏ బాధ్యతా నేను అప్పజెప్పడం లేదు. కానీ ఆయన నా మాట వినడం లేదు, ఆ పని చేస్తానంటున్నాడు).

b) Dorasway: Nagaraj is a shirker. He wonÕt take any responsibility (నాగరాజ్‌ పని ఎగ్గొట్టే రకం. ఏ బాధ్యతా తీసుకోడు).

Ramamurthy: That is true. Whenever he is given an assignment, he says he is over the hill and canÕt do it (నిజమే. ఏ పనైనా అప్పజెబితే తాను పెద్దవాడై పోయాననీ, చేయలేననీ అంటాడు).

3. One the graey train = a job getting high salary with very little work (పని తక్కువ, జీతం ఎక్కువ ఉండే ఉద్యోగం).

a) Ramaswamy: How lucky these politicians are! Without much trouble they make a lot of money (ఎంత అదృష్టవంతులు ఈ రాజకీయాల్లో ఉన్నవాళ్లు! ఏ పనీ లేకుండా డబ్బు బాగా సంపాదించుకుంటారు).

Suguna: They see their positions as their gravy trains, where they can make a lot of money without much trouble (వాళ్ల పదవులను వాళ్లు డబ్బులు సంపాదించుకునే అవకాశంగా చూస్తారు. ఏ శ్రమ లేకుండా బాగా డబ్బు చేసుకునే మార్గం చూసుకుంటారు).
